About One Spirit RanchOne Spirit Ranch is located approximately 35 miles North of Boise, Idaho’s capital city. Nestled in a “Sweet” valley beneath the beautiful surrounding mountains, it’s an ideal location to raise both kids and horses. The small community of Sweet is named after a person, even though the setting lives up to it’s name. “One Spirit” represents how we approach life, our relationship with one another, and with our animals. This approach is consistent with how ancient horse people from the Iberian peninsula (the region of Spain and Portugal where our horses originated) philosophy of horsemanship. They believed a state of oneness was required to achieve the relationship with the horse. This oneness not only required equestrian skills, but spiritual cross training to become one or “one spirit” with the horse. The result has been described as an “invisible thread” connecting the horse and the handler, and sensitivity to one another’s subtle energy shifts. The handler not only is connected physically, but also with the mind, spirit and innermost soul. We have three children ages 19, 17, and 13, two border collies, and a group of manx cats. Raising horses is something Rob and Daina enjoy – especially handling and working with the young horses. We anxiously anticipate the arrival of each and every foal in the spring and strive to handle them daily. Daina was committed as “horse crazy” early in life and grew up mostly riding both Western and English. Rob, though new to horses, appreciates their peaceful presence and flight tendencies. He especially loves the youngsters.  OSR Spirit Twist The first Azteca foal was born on One Spirit Ranch in 2000 out of our APHA bay mare Gambler’s Magic Fox “Magic”. OSR La Chispa, a bay Azteca D colt, sired by Boise’s Arrow Navarrre, was sold to Danielle Hughes of Boise. He is currently in training as a hunter/jumper. “Magic” has produced a number of fine horses over the years. Another Azteca colt OSR Spirit Twist also out of Magic went to Tiffany Barclay in Fairfield, CA. This big, powerful colt was doing amazing things with Tiffany as early as 2 years of age. The final three Aztecas by Brio were exported to Rachel and Ronnie MacLennan Baird, Dream Aztecas in the United Kingdom. Going through the exporting process was an adventure in and of itself. But, we now have the experience. Rob and I visited Ronnie and Rachel this last spring. |
